Tips for Your First Niche...

In terms of getting started Robert recommends targeting a “warm market” that you already know, like and trust. Take a look around and see which local businesses you deal with yourself on a regular basis.

For example if you have a family lawyer, chiropractor or independent air-conditioning repairman you know—approach them as your first business owner.

Have them as your first “free customer” so you can practise the steps involved in securing a new client, building a website and getting that site ranked.

This is a low risk and practical way to start.  The fact they already know you (and you’re doing it for a low or no fee) will take off the pressure for you to perform.

Simply approach them casually and ask what they are doing online to attract new customers?  If they are not doing anything (or if their efforts are proving ineffective) then suggest you use their business as a practice for a clever idea you know of.

Most of these business owners will already to receptive to you (because they know you) and all will welcome new business!

At the least you walk out with confidence in your abilities to generate leads for a local business owner. And in the best case scenario they will be singing your praises and refer your services onto other business friends of theirs.

It is a win-win!
